Poc in solitary marching for eachother
this picture deserves more context than it’s been getting. on the far left is linda sarsour. she is a palestinian-american racial justice and civil rights activist and media commentator. in the middle is carmen perez, co-founder of Justice League NYC and criminal justice reform activist. on the far right is tamika mallory, a civil and human rights activist and freedom fighter.
this is the march2justice. it was a 250 mile-long walk from staten island to washington, dc. they were delivering what they call the justice package, a list of proposals for congress that would seek to end racial profiling, the militarization of police, and to support programs to prevent the incarceration of young people. about 100 people marched with them. i got to listen to linda sarsour speak very briefly at an Islamic Relief fundraiser while this was going on. these women are astonishing.
when they reached baltimore, they decided to put the march on hold. all three of them are now there, marching and reporting. the march2justice explicitly states its support of all black people, cis and trans, incarcerated and not. more information on the march2justice can be found here.
The Day After (4/28/15, PART 2): Residents across Baltimore begin the hard work of cleaning up and rebuilding their city. Still no answers or arrests for the murder of Freddie Gray. Praying for both healing AND justice in Baltimore today. #staywoke #farfromover
A police officer fatally shot an unarmed man during what police are calling a “violent struggle” in the East Village on Saturday. The shooting happened around 1:45 p.m. yesterday at what the Times refers to as“a supportive housing complex for people with mental illnesses” on E. 6th Street near Avenue A.
The 22-year-old victim, whom the Post has identified as Felix David, was the suspect in a robbery last Thursday at City College.
Cops tracked him down to the East Village facility, and say David fled out a window on the sixth floor and down a fire escape. Although David was unarmed, cops say that “a struggle ensued between the suspect and the two detectives.” This ‘violent struggle’ involved a police radio, which David allegedlygrabbed from one of the officers and used to strike both detectives on the head, causing lacerations.
During this one detective drew his firearm and fired once, striking David in the torso. He was taken to Beth Israel Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Both officers were taken to Bellevue with bruises and lacerations; both are in stable condition. Police add that the investigation is ongoing.

On her way to class, on the 9th of March 2015, a brave black woman raises her voice, stands her ground, pulls out her camera phone
and potentially saves a homeless man from being killed by a swarm of Killer Pigs.
She saved that man’s life. That officer changed his entire tune and body language when he realized he was being recorded and there were other people watching. But we the savages
that woman is a true hero
God bless her
Yaaaasssssssssssss

She really did. They were ready to kill him. Keep filming the police y'all. Like she said they’re out of fucking control. Bless her. - Mod K
She is fucking awesome.
I’m in tears watching this, we had two cops with weapons aimed and ready at the start of this video. There is a homeless man laying-motionless- on the ground. What would have happened if she would not have said enough is enough and recorded this? The change in stance changes immediately when the officer sees her phone is out. This life is crazy man. God bless her.
